There are a number of great organizations dedicated to electrifying Californian homes without the soft costs typically associated with solar. I've volunteered with Sunwork, a non-profit that allows volunteers to assist in the installation process.

I've worked on homes in the East Bay and San Francisco, installing solar and heat pump hot water systems.
